Alta V. Williams obituary graveside services slated

Graveside services for Alta V. Williams age 95 of Ottawa will be held at 2 30 p m Saturday at Greenlawn Cemetery Plattsburg Missouri with Rev Robert C Elliott officiating Williams born August 19 1903 at Plattsburg to James Henry and Maude Livingston Glenn grew up there married Earl Lee Williams March 27 1924 in Plattsburg He was deceased in 1963 She was a lifelong homemaker and worked as a telephone operator in the 1940s and 1950s She moved to Ottawa in 1986 a former member of First Christian Church Gower and Rebekah Lodge Plattsburg Survivors include two great nephews Jerry Rowland Pomona and John Rowland Williamsburg a great niece Janis Warrick Lenexa She was preceded in death by sister Josephine Barnes Martin and niece Nadine Rowland Friends may call 5 p m today to 10 a m Saturday at Dengel Son Mortuary where the family will meet with friends Friday 7 to 8 p m Memorials may go to Midland Hospice or Shriner Children Hospital left in care of the mortuary.

Mailbox bomb investigated near Wellsville

The U S Postal Service and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department investigate a mailbox explosion west of Wellsville Friday night. Terry Gretencord reported hearing the blast and found his mailbox destroyed with burn marks. A deputy said a large firecracker may have been used in a prank. the probe continues.

Man charged in escape sex case in Franklin County

Howard McKinsey Gunn Jr., 31, is charged in Franklin County with three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery and related felonies after an Aug. 4 incident in which he allegedly fondled three women in Rantoul then fled in a stolen vehicle. He led authorities on a high speed chase, crashed, and jumped into a creek in Wellsville before being captured. He had been a fugitive since August, was jailed in Linn County, and faces additional legal actions stemming from prior convictions and probation revocation. His court representation was appointed as he prepares for his next appearance.

Trucker kidnapping suspects traced near I-35 Wellsville

A Michigan truck driver recounts a Tuesday kidnapping near the Arkansas Missouri border. Two teenagers Christopher Kraft and Jonathan Cohen face charges in Franklin County for vehicle burglary felony theft and property damage with items recovered and bonds set.
