Heart Drug Proves Effective Halting of Trial
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute will disclose results of a three year trial of the beta blocker propanolol, known as Inderal, showing reduced heart attack deaths. With 2100 patients on drug and 2100 on placebo, the study suggests many survivors should receive the medicine to prevent fatal recurrences.
