Probe on Teamsters Central States Fund Racketeering Probe
Labor Secretary Donovan outlined a federal probe into the Teamsters Central States Fund, backing legislation to block convicted union leaders from pension fund control for ten years. He said civil actions would run alongside criminal evidence gathering as a broader inquiry into fund misuses affecting over 400,000 members in 33 states. The fund, valued over 2.8 billion, faces unfunded liabilities of 7.6 billion and calls for IRS monitoring of solvency.
