US forces in Vietnam enter gray condition alert from Friday 5 p.m. Saigon time to Monday 5 p.m. due to feared enemy attacks during Thieu inauguration. The move aims to curb demonstrations and keep troops on essential travel only.
Gov Robert Docking denounces agency requests as unrealistic and promises a no nonsense budget for 1973. He cites total agency requests at 1,094.5 million, far above 1972 appropriations, and warns tax burdens would rise if approved. Major increases are outlined across General Government Public Welfare Education and Research Highways Health and Hospitals and other sectors.

She was killed September 25 at 1116 North Poplar, with the fund held in escrow at Peoples National Bank and contributions to be sent to the Maude N. Richardson Reward Fund.
The Ottawa University Homecoming parade set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in downtown Ottawa has been canceled due to insufficient completed floats. Completed floats will be displayed on the Student Union Mall from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and then moved to the OU College of Emporia football game for presentation.
City Manager Robert W Mills announced that 180 violators on the 1969 junk vehicle storage ordinance list were notified to remove nuisances within 10 days. Notices went out from City Hall as enforcement began weeks ago. violations are misdemeanor.
Ransom Memorial Hospital was approved for a fifth time by the Joint Commission. Surveyed Sept. 17, the hospital meets national standards across operations and care. The commission noted 28 recommendations, mainly for physical plant and records upgrades, to be addressed with the new hospital construction.
Kansas Harris group newspapers expand state government coverage by opening a Topeka bureau on Nov. 1. Leroy Towns, 27, a Kansas State University journalism graduate, will be state correspondent, focusing on the Kansas Legislature and government with headquarters at KTOP radio. Towns has previous awards and experience in state reporting.
U.S. District Judge George Templar denied a temporary injunction in the Kansas wage freeze case but postponed a final ruling on declaratory relief. The suit by the Kansas National Education Association seeks relief for inequities from the federal wage freeze affecting teachers and would allow administrative corrections.
