Washington tents at Yorktown seek 400000 repair funds
National Park Service aims to raise 400000 to repair George Washington era tents once used for Revolutionary War planning. Damaged by oily film from a faulty air system and water stains from a climate leak, two tents were removed from display in 1997. If the money isn't raised, the tents will be stored away.

Maxine E. Burkert, 83, Pomona, died Friday October 22 1999 at home. Funeral 10 a.m. Monday at Dengel Son Mortuary with Pastor Bob Miller. Born December 2 1915 in Central Community to Max and Lettie Allen. Worked as waitress and in Topeka then Valley Falls and Pomona. Married Earl Bronson in 1945, he died 1967. Married Ed Burkert in 1971, he died 1972. Member of First Christian Church Valley Falls later Appanoose Baptist Church. Survived by two sisters Betty Bowman and Lois Horst and several nieces and nephews. Burial Central Cemetery Franklin County. Memorials to Appanoose Baptist or First Christian Church Valley Falls.
