Girl 14 Survives Black Bear Attack by Playing Dead

In Snohomish County Washington a 14 year old girl was attacked by a 300 pound black bear while outside her home. She played dead to survive suffering bites to her left thigh and right calf. A 13 year old foster brother called for help. The bear was tracked and killed by state wildlife agents and a veterinarian planned to examine the animal.

Halloween carnival slated for Sunday in Garnett

The Arnett Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its second annual Halloween Carnival at 6:30 p m Sunday in Garnett in the Ray's Quality Foods parking lot. Booths, contests and a haunted house are planned with support from local groups including the Gameit branch of the AAUW pumpkin sculpture contest. Pumpkins carved and lit will be judged in age groups with prizes for the top three in each category. If rain, the event moves to Town Hall Center.
