Watercraft tax debate drives Kansas boating concerns

Kansans face a 30 percent watercraft tax higher than neighboring states with no property tax on boats. Boaters like Randy Baker note rising taxes deter boating and may push some to register vessels out of state, costing Kansas revenue as about 85 000 watercraft exist. Registration costs 32 50 per vessel every three years. Kansas residents vote on the issue November 6.
