Justices keep Cincinnati gay protections ban intact

The Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to Cincinnati’s charter amendment that bars any discrimination protection for gays. The move leaves in place the 1993 measure, echoing earlier Colorado rulings, and may cause policy confusion without creating a national precedent. Justice Stevens, joined by Souter and Ginsburg, stressed the decision is not an expression on the merits.
