Beekeeping confusion ends as Kansas expert debunks killer bees

Soper describes a vicious underground swarm that stung her scalp and face before she and her daughter burned the nest. Kansas insects ecologist Chip Taylor identified the aggressive insects as yellow jackets, not Africanized honeybees, noting their northern rarity and ongoing regional spread is unlikely to reach Kansas soon. The expert advised leaving colonies alone or controlled removal after dark, while Soper plans to stay clear and move horses to a safer trough.
