Herschel D. Newsom of the National Grange told the Future Farmers of America convention in Kansas City that the disruptive aftermath of war has driven down farm prices and flooded markets. He said production for war cannot be quickly cut to peacetime levels and warned against restricting output to shrinking markets. He noted stabilizing dollar purchasing power and rising openness to new ideas as hopeful signs. The third session drew about 10,000 farm youths.

Boy Accused Of Shooting Father In Kansas Farmland
A 13 year old farm boy, Leon Casteel, was captured while riding a horse along a Butler County highway after allegedly shooting his father Clyde Casteel. The father, 38, sustained three bullet wounds in the lower back and was hospitalized in Wichita. A .32 pistol was found in the boy’s saddle bags. Undersheriff Ercel Reed reported no immediate charges. Detective notes indicate the shooting followed a rebuke for breaking a yard light. The boy reportedly told little about the events before and after the incident.
