City OKs demolition of house in Ottawa during war study session

Ottawa officials approved tearing down the deteriorated house at 843 S. Cherry after condemning it in February. Killough Construction bid 4488 dollars and the city will bill the owner, Jackson Robinson Jr., and may lien the property if unpaid. The session also authorized repairs at the Carnegie Building, park Halloween events, and a Jaycees Fall Festival noise waiver.

De La Torre named to Rec Commission vote splits Ottawa panel

Ottawa officials appoint Tony De La Torre to the Recreation Commission to fill Kent Ramsey's term, with a 4-1 vote led by the city commission. De La Torre, a former Ottawa police officer and current Kansas Human Rights Commission investigator, will serve the remainder of Ramsey's term. The board also proclaimed Oct 15–16 as Ottawa High School Wall of Honor Days and October as the Month of Young Adolescents, and approved zoning and housing finance measures.
