In Franklin County District Court a 9 30 hearing is set for Monday on a second degree battery charge. Dieckmann pleaded not guilty at arraignment October 17 and seeks diversion rather than a bench trial. A mandatory 24 1 1 hold limits contact between the defendant and the victim as Judge Kevin Kimball weighs next steps.
A 53 year old former Ottawa High custodian, Marshall Dean Silvey, petitions a judge to overturn a court order requiring him to register as a sex offender. He was convicted of attempted eavesdropping in the girls locker room, received six months in jail and 12 months probation after a plea deal.
Sam and Kitty Sampson and their son Sam enjoy a New York City visit with a Rockettes show on Nov. 11. Kitty recalls their early musical ties at Tinker Air Force Base and her late sister Vicki Eichers who sang alto with her. The family participates in Leawood church choirs and Ottawa First United Methodist performances, with December dates in Ottawa.
Principal Buddy Welch runs a long standing program at Central Heights Middle and Elementary schools in Richmond. The Christmas Giveaway provides gifts to all sixth through eighth grade students and now elementary pupils as well. Donations from private individuals and local businesses fund clothes, KU basketball tickets, and money used to buy gifts. A former superintendent donates $600 to $800 annually and community support remains strong.
