Franklin county farmers and their wives attended a district Farm Bureau membership meeting in Oskaloosa last night, led by Roy. The event highlighted local farming concerns and community involvement within the district.
An enthusiastic audience watched Alaskan big game films last night at Memorial auditorium. Sponsored by Williams burg Wildlife club, the show was narrated by J. Ron Malcolm, who photographed them. Another showing is set for tonight at 8 o clock.
Fort Scott will receive an 1850 model Civil War cannon ordered by Secretary Brucker. The cannon now at Ft. McClellan in Anniston, Alabama will be transferred to Fort Scott.
Funeral services for Dr Judson Ernest Woods of Kincaid were held in Kincaid Baptist church where he had served as pastor since 1939. He died Wednesday at 5 p m at home. born September 20, 1883 in Kincaid. educated at Ottawa University and Central Baptist seminary. survived by wife, one daughter, two sons and four grandchildren.
Calvin Richard Springer 85 lifelong Rantoul resident died at 1045 a.m. his home after two years of poor health. Born October 15 1870 in Rantoul he was the last of his family. A farmer and grocer he served as township trustee and on the Rantoul school board. Surviving are his wife Maude Weatherford Springer three sons Keith R Boonville Mo Cuthbert Paola and Richard Olpe Kas two daughters Evelyn Robbins Englewood Colo and Frances
Springer Kansas City Missouri and five grandchildren are noted in a funeral notice. Funeral services will be held at Lamb Funeral Home Monday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
In St John s Newfoundland a 16 month old girl, Janette Marie Brown, daughter of Airman and Mrs Richard Brown of Paola Kansas, died in an apartment fire. Two older brothers aged three and four lost consciousness but are recovering. The blaze started in the children s bedroom and was confined to the Brown unit.
Admitted include Mrs Earl Baxter of Waverly on Wednesday and Mrs LaVerne Phillips of 833 S Main on Thursday. Also admitted were Mrs Helen Gosney of 809 S Sycamore and Elmer and Shirley Mason of route 3 today. Discharges list Steven Meseraull of Lawrence and Jimmie and Rebecca Johnson of Pomona among others with several more named patients dismissed to home or routes today.
Robert C. Bearden, 58, executive vice president of Sinclair Pipe Line Co., Independence, Kansas, died in a hospital here yesterday. Bearden, a Springfield, Colorado native, had been hospitalized since suffering a cerebral hemorrhage while vacationing at Grand Lake in northeast Oklahoma.
Kansas City police said six officers remain full time on the abduction and slaying of Mrs. William R. Allen Jr. three months after her disappearance. FBI agents seek the crime scene and slayer as four leads were checked yesterday and two suspects given lie detector tests. Her blood stained car was found near Union Station and her body recovered August 7 in a Johnson County field.
Portland report says Republican National Chairman Leonard W. Hall is optimistic about a 1956 win, citing a youthful united party and a platform upholding the Eisenhower record. The statement highlights confidence in campaign strength and party cohesion.
Local Markets l uncl Aldo Funston notes Maj. Gen. Frederick Funston died in 1917 of a heart attack at 51. Col Funston, a West Point graduate, was stationed with the Air Force at Greenville. Survivors include the widow and a son.
Parsons Col Frederick Funston Jr son of the famed Kansas general died unexpectedly last night in Greenville South Carolina from a heart attack at age 52. Word of his death was received here by an army officer.
