No Small Bit Of Irony In State Harvest
Kansas wheat farmers may harvest a record crop in three weeks yet face their smallest pay in two years as prices drift near $3 to $3.20. Government forecasts put 1975 wheat at about 489 million bushels, up from 1973, but weak export demand and bumper supplies threaten earnings. Rex Cozad of the Kansas Wheat Commission doubts a price rebound, noting slippage since last year and cautioning buyers studying the new crop. Tom Ostrander, heading the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, shares export cautiousness as growers anticipate the market.
