County planning approves zoning changes near Meadow Lakes

Franklin County Planning Commission backed mobile home rules for unzoned areas and recommended rezoning 6.6 acres from A-1 agricultural to A-1 residential near Meadow Lakes two miles southwest of US 50. Gary Griffith urged clarifications to zoning rules and deletion of extra conditional use language. The panel also approved preliminary and final plats contingent on water and drainage easements, road work, and a 10-foot utility casement along cul-de-sacs and along Highway 50.

Forecast for Arles: cloudy tonight and weekend showers

Central Heights postpones vote on vacancy

Central Heights school board tabled filling a panel vacancy until next month while approving administrative contracts and salaries, a 5.75 percent bus service rate increase for 1992-93, and support for Chapter I reading. Several resignations were accepted and two candidates surfaced for the vacancy, Larry Fox and Cathy Ashburn.

West Franklin grants approved for 1992 93 local effectiveness program

West Franklin school district committee approves 11 local effectiveness grants totaling 7500 for 1992 93 to aid Pomona and Appanoose schools. Projects include tutoring at Pomona Elementary and technology upgrades at Pomona High School and Williams burg High School during the year.

Eighth graders earn diplomas at Ottawa Middle School

One hundred eighty graduates received diplomas at Ottawa University Chapel during a Thursday night ceremony. OMS President Linda Heiniger and Student Principal Advisory Board chief Anne Porter spoke as the OMS Jazz Band and Eighth Grade Chorus performed. Fifty six students won Presidential Academic Fitness Awards for meeting U.S. Education criteria, including at least a B plus average and scoring in the 80th percentile on a standardized test. The list of honored students includes Jessica S. Adamson and Rachell A. Asher among many others across the class.

The weekend features a curator talk at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Old Depot Museum with Deborah Barker discussing the WW II editorial cartoon collection donated by the late Dr. James Wallen. The museum will be open 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday to Monday, Osage City hosts Twin Lakes Festival activities, and a Sharmar Country Jam boree closes the day at Santa Fe Park.

Garnett to Host Three Stop Southview Fund-raiser

Community Revival Center Church to host Willie Williams

TV host Willie Williams, a speaker for Southern Gospel, will speak at Community Revival Center Church, 2749 Montana Road, on Sun May 24 at 6 30 p m. He will be ordained with the Independent Assemblies that evening. Memorial Day services are planned at Pomona Cemetery May 24 and Highland Cemetery May 25 by Ottawa Veterans Post 5901.
