Killer's sentence carried out in Virginia
Coal Miner Roger Keith Coleman was executed by electric chair for the 1981 rape and murder of Wanda McCoy in Grundy Virginia. He maintained innocence despite appeals and a DNA test the defense says could exonerate him, while prosecutors cited semen and blood evidence and a jailhouse informant. The execution followed a late appeal denial by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Vasectomy Study Finds No Overall Death Risk
A large study of nearly 30,000 men finds vasectomy does not raise overall death risk or heart disease. Researchers note a possible higher cancer death rate after 20 years, but the effect is offset by reduced heart disease, leaving overall mortality unchanged. The work appears in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Kansas approves tougher law to curb cattle rustling
Gov. Joan Finney signed a bill cracking down on cattle rustling. It gives confiscation power over equipment, horses and dogs used in theft and sets penalties by value: Class D up to 10 years and 10,000 dollars, Class E up to five years and 10,000 dollars, and Class A misdemeanor up to one year and 2,500 dollars. Impetus came from Butler and Greenwood ranchers seeking stronger prosecutions and deterrents. A separate provision makes exposure to a life threatening disease a Class A misdemeanor with up to one year in jail.
