Paralysis spreads as state motor transit associations order members to close after AFL seamster strike against three major trucking lines. California Trucking Assn calls it a united strike, followed by Washington Oregon Utah and Idaho actions. New Mexico affected. Teamsters struck over wages and benefits in a contract dispute.
A week after a terse Pentagon note about Soviet air strength, conflicting accounts emerged. Brig. Gen. Woodbury M. Burgess said he was misquoted about Russia’s air power while Gen. Nathan F. Twining questioned the truth of Burgess remarks. Senators prepared to probe U S and Soviet air capabilities after Burgess defended his speech but admitted questions remained.

Other bids cover grading drainage in Butler County and right of way fences with bids ranging from 31 165 to 46 195 along with engineer estimates for each project.
District attorney reports warrants for Mrs. Hazel Kemper and her son Carol Fairley over an alleged abduction of Arthur Kemper. The claim states they accosted him in a Denver grocery lot, forced him into his car, and drove to Kansas where Oakley police halted the vehicle. The note adds a separate item about surplus wheat sales to Yugoslavia at $1.80 per bushel versus a $3.20 government investment.
Yale senior Eugene F. Suter Jr., 22, of New York, won the right to reject his $400,000 inheritance from his father. Surrogate William T. Collins upheld his decision, noting the young man has two hands and a head of his own and that acceptance would conflict with his moral and political principles. Trustees opposed the action. The father, a millionaire inventor and machinery manufacturer, died in 1943.
Topeka will host a July start for a state civil defense drive to recruit 24000 volunteer plane spotters. Maj James Brown, returning from overseas duty, is named coordinator to set up headquarters in Topeka and oversee volunteers for 400 ground observer stations. The Better Vision Institute cites six million American school children with uncorrected visual defects.
Four armed white men robbed the First National Bank of Jacksonville in Alabama, seizing between 85 000 and 90 000 dollars after kidnapping bank official Jesse N Wood from his home. They escorted him and others to the bank, tied employees, and waited for a vault time lock to open to collect cash.
Market listings show wheat barley soy beans rye yellow corn and white corn with oats and milo prices. Egg categories include straight run graded eggs heavy and light hens with butter fat noted at 49 and 48.
