Ottawa High the Cyclones face state 3-A track show

Ottawa High School enters the Kansas 3-A state meet under heavy pressure as defending champions. Cyclones coach Don Kornhaus expects a tough title race with Lyons and Wellington strong in both track and field. Key Ottawa athletes include Mendell in sprints and jumps, Solt and Perkins in hurdles, plus strong pole vault and weight events led by Drumright, Grogan, Hanes, and Stockemer. The team relies on field events to lift the meet while Mendell seeks rehab for the broad jump. State finals begin Friday afternoon in Wichita with Orris Cox as referee.
