Stormy Ottawa Outages Darken City and County
A quick moving storm early Wednesday caused widespread outages in Ottawa and surrounding areas. Dana Stephenson reported 30 percent of customers without power at 1:30 p.m. due to lightning and downed trees. Most power was restored within an hour, but traffic signals failed at First and Main, and two residents were stranded in an elevator at Washburn Towers. Strong winds felled lines in the 1000 block of Cottonwood, leaving residents without power for about four hours while circuit 12 serving southeast Ottawa tripped. The county also saw outages and a tree fire in Princeton after a downed line.
