New minister Chamness to lead First Assembly of God Ottawa

John I. Chamness accepts the pastorate at The First Assembly of God Church Ottawa. He will preach this Sunday with his wife Grace and son Justin joining from Mount Washington Kentucky. Chamness holds a doctorate in ministry and was ordained in 1987 by the Kentucky District Assemblies of God. He studied at Logos Bible and Graduate School Jacksonville Ashbury Theological Seminary Wilmore Berean Bible College Springfield and previously pastored in Ohio Illinois and Kentucky.

Nichols to Appear in Court Over Oklahoma City Bombing

Nichols, held outside Oklahoma City with McVeigh, faces an initial appearance this afternoon where charges will be read. He will hear his rights and decline a plea. A sealed affidavit may be opened. Both men face the death penalty if convicted of malicious destruction of federal property by explosives. Nichols is also charged with aiding and abetting. The two have a long association.

Garnett firefighters foil plant blaze at Taylor Forge

Garnett fire crews doused a small blaze in the hoses of an acetylene tank at Taylor Forge Wednesday. Fire Chief Jerry Gettler said a potential explosion was averted by workers and firefighters. Damages to tanks and surrounding area were under $1,000.

Free drama showcase at Ottawa High School tonight

Ottawa High School presents a drama showcase at 7 p.m. in the new gym. Drama teacher Michelle Kirk notes 35 performances of speech reading and acting will run about 24 hours.
