Pomona High School junior varsity finished second at Marmaton Valley on Sunny Meadows. The team totaled 206, behind Oswego at 186. Levi Parkin earned silver with 48, and Joey Harris won a card playoff for ninth with 52. Gar ret t Vance shot 52, Erick Wooten 54, and Brett Gilliland 62. Ottawa High to host three football camps this summer.
Ottawa University will sponsor a seven week prep girls summer league for high school players on Tuesday nights from June 5 to July 17. The last week features a single elimination tournament. Registration is due May 25 with a $55 fee covering 10-12 games, a T-shirt, and postseason play. Arabie Conner and Bruce Tate lead the league and accept calls at 242-5200 extensions 5428 or 5559.
Randy Johnson struck out 20 in nine innings becoming the first lefty to reach 20, but the Diamondbacks lost to the Reds 4-3 in 11 innings after 124 pitches. Tom Cheney’s 21 in 1962 remains the MLB extra inning mark.
Ottawa High will host three camps May 29 through June 1 with sessions for fifth/sixth grade from noon to 2 PM and seventh/eighth grade from 2 to 4 30 PM plus an 8 30 to 11 AM high school Cyclones camp. Fees 40 for the younger camps, 45 day-of, deadline May 21. Staff includes OHS coaches Grover Malburg Kyriakos and Cyclone players.
