POWs and refugees marked the war’s end in May memories
Retired master sergeant Coday recalls witnessing thousands of German POWs in gondola cars, bombed towns, and labor camp inmates as Allied forces advanced. He notes May 5 surrendering hostilities, the burial of about 300 bodies from Wobeltein near Ludwigslust, and his return to the United States after over two years abroad.
