Frances H. Mauk, 92, dies in Topeka. services set

Frances H. Mauk, 92, of Topeka died May 5 2001. Funeral services are 2 PM Tuesday at Farris Feuerborn Memorial Chapel Garnett with Rev. Leroy Reynolds officiating. She was born August 20 1908 in Kirksville Missouri to Henry Franklin and Lenora Armading Yadon. She married Clarence Forest Mauk September 7 1929 in Moburid City. He preceded her in death. A homemaker and farm wife, she lived in Centerville forty years and Garnett from 1974 to 1995 and Topeka the last six years. She was a member of Osawatomie Assembly of God Church and charter member of Ozark Camping Club in Anderson and Linn counties. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Family will receive friends 7 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial at Goodrich Cemetery.

Ronnie Biggs the famed Great Train Robber is arrested in Britain on arrival from Brazil. Scotland Yard detains him after landing and a brief court appearance follows. The 71 year old, frail from strokes, had fled after the 1963 Glasgow to London heist. The incident recalls his escape from Wandsworth Prison and decades on the lam.

Manassas knife bidder seeks famous weapon from Bobbitt case

John Wayne Bobbitt wants the 12 inch red handle knife that Lorena used in 1993 severing his penis. The weapon has sat in a Prince William County courthouse box for seven years as he plans a court motion to reclaim and auction it to collectors. He says talks with Lorena are possible but says they have not spoken in years. In Cleveland, Donald Milligan Jr. tried to fool drug tests by using a prosthetic with a friend’s urine. The scheme failed and he received a one year prison term for probation violation.
