Stephan Threatens Court Action On Machinery, Property Taxes
Kansas Attorney General Robert Stephan warned that he may test tax laws if Governor Carlin signs a new farm machinery tax bill. He criticized the legislature and governor for backing a bill he calls unconstitutional, and floated a statewide reappraisal of property to fix inequities in valuation. He cited potential tests on inventories and oil and gas property taxation, and linked politics with a change in his ally’s campaign backer, Mrs. Hurley.
