North Vietnamese troops moved within six miles of Hue after seizing a fire base north of the old imperial capital. In Binh Dinh Province the enemy captured the last northern coastal stronghold. A massive U.S. air armada conducted hundreds of strikes across South Vietnam as Lt. Gen. Lam was replaced and Marines fell back from Fire Base Nancy toward the My Chang River line. English salvage fell to the North, leaving 200,000 in their control.
