A widespread winter blast snarled Kansas with 4 to 7 inches of snow and slick, hazardous roads. Highways patrol reported several vehicle slides, weather officials warned of near zero temps in north and west areas and 5 to 10 above in the southeast. Several Franklin county schools closed and buses ran late as snow fell across towns from Colby to Ottawa with scattered accumulations.
