Correction confirms Thomas Agosta of Ottawa, aged 51, appeared Friday at Franklin County Adult Detention Center in response to a Franklin County District Court summons tied to a December 11 arrest. The prior Wednesday Herald Daily Report had misreported it as a new arrest.
Ottawa Co-op posted afternoon quotes for Wednesday with hard wheat 7.30 soybeans 13.06 corn 6.46 milo 6.11. Franklin County USDA Farm Service Agency price list shows corn 6.44 milo 10.40 oats 2.73 soybeans 13.09 wheat 7.38.
The Kansas Senate approved a bill restricting late term abortions by the 21st week on the presumption a fetus feels pain. The 24 to 15 vote follows Nebraska as the second state to adopt this standard. The bill allows abortion after 21 weeks only if the mother's life is in danger or there is substantial and permanent harm to a major bodily function, excluding mental health. Gov. Brownback expected to sign after House concurrence.
The Kansas Senate backed two abortion opponent measures on Wednesday. One tightens post 21 week abortion limits, the other requires written consent from both parents before a minor abortion. Senators Apple and King supported the bills while critics called the move chauvinistic and harmful to women and families.
