Strike Up the Band Ottawa opens Community Arts Series

The Ottawa auditorium presents Strike Up the Band Ottawa a 7 30 p m Saturday April finale of the Arts Series featuring five groups led by OMA Director Dick Smith. The Ottawa Suzuki Strings trains 70 students at Ottawa University directed by Alice Joy Lewis with tours including the United Nations. The Ottawa Brass formed January 1994 performs classical to popular tunes. The Barefoot Fillharmonic plays Dixieland and brass, with local directors. The Ottawa University Symphonette a 35 to 40 member ensemble opens to performers of classical music. The Ottawa City Jazz Band a 19 member big band directed by Brent Wheeler performs swing and Latin styles. Tickets are 350 with discounts for youth students and free for ages 4 to 11. Reservations at 242-8810. Series sponsored by Lamb Roberts Funeral Home First National Bank and Southwestern Bell Foundation.

Woodcarvers Club Opens April Beginners Class

Ottawa Community Arts Council invites beginners to a four week April session every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Center. Bud Walton dies at 73, key Wal-Mart figure and real estate chief
