Pork industry rebounds but Kansas hog farms shrink
The Hutchinson News reports that the U S pork industry is recovering while Kansas hog farms shrink. Record low slaughter prices in 1999 forced about 700 Kansas farms out of business, leaving around 1,900 swine operations in the state. Small farms fell hardest, with more than a third of under 500 hogs closing, while 2,000 plus head operations rose from 120 to 130.
