Weather outlook for AU area shows cloud cover and light winds

Baldwin restaurant fire ruled accidental

Investigators ruled out arson in a Baldwin blaze that destroyed Popp's Restaurant at 131 Baker. Firefighters fought the Sunday fire for hours. no injuries reported. Building owner Larry Trowbridge leases to Darren Maples, an Ottawa resident who operated the restaurant. State Fire Marshal will issue a detailed report and damage estimate soon.

Ottawa district negotiates new teacher induction plan

Ottawa Education Association and Ottawa Board of Education reached tentative accord on a new hire induction program and paid pre start days. They also discussed mentoring, veteran support, information packets on leave and benefits, plus a later schedule of topics for ongoing talks ahead of the 2000-01 school year.

Pope walks in footsteps of Jesus in Israel visit

Pope John Paul II arrived in Tel Aviv to a broad Israeli government greeting as he begins a Holy Land pilgrimage.
