Plan Divides Kansas on School Funding Equity
Senate Democrats criticize a GOP education plan that leans on local property tax increases and would repeal the Homestead Exemption to fund a 91 million package. The plan adds 25 million to boost low income test scores, 2 million for bilingual students, and 1 million for mentoring 1,000 new teachers, while raising concerns about widening district disparities. Local boards would decide funding levels, drawing criticism from educators and officials who warn the approach undermines equity and adequacy in schools.
