Study disputes poverty link in family violence findings
Kansas State University researchers challenge the idea that low income or parental education predict abuse. Led by Walter Schumm, the team of four found most traditional factors fail to forecast violence and warn policies and professional practice may rely on weak, woozled research. They studied 181 families across rural and urban Kansas, using three hour surveys from teens and parents, and call for fieldwork beyond clinical data to better classify family violence.
