Elementary students in kindergarten through grade six may submit two different school papers printed between September 1984 and April 1985. A $100 first prize will be awarded. no professionally typeset papers accepted.
NASA sponsors SEEDS Space Exposed Experiment Developed for Students to run in 1985 86 across schools from grade five to college. Park Seed Co supplies guides and seed packets two per teacher with one batch space flown for about a year and a control batch stored on Earth in a warehouse.
More than 12 million seeds were carried into space aboard the space shuttle Challenger on the LDEF Long Duration Exposure Facility. The facility, about the size of a school bus, was placed in a 300 mile high orbit with 56 other experiments. Plans exist to retrieve LDEF from orbit and bring it back to Earth this spring.
