Kansas House action proposals tax base shifts and budgets
A Kansas House bill would tax base wages and net earnings for school taxes, backed by the Kansas Livestock Association to ease real estate tax burdens. Other measures include moving cereal malt beverage regulation to the Alcoholic Beverage Control office, keeping firemen and police pensions under state control, and raising wrongful death damages. Senate proposals would distribute a $70 million sales tax fund to schools, welfare, and aid, with specific allocations to counties, social welfare, high school finance, school emergency funds, and state university funds.
