Hinton Earns Runner-Up Finish At NAIA Wrestling Nationals
TOPEKA Ottawa University senior Tyler Hinton reached the 141-pound final at the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament, losing the championship to Concordia's Andrew Schulte. Hinton opened with a 19-10 win, then defeated Briar Cliff, pinned Menlo, and beat Montana State in the semifinals to finish as runner-up.

OU Duo Places At Track Nationals In Tennessee
Ottawa University sophomore Bryanna Music finished 13th in the weight throw and shot put at the 2016 NAIA Indoor Track National Championships in Johnson City Tennessee with throws of 52-11 and 42-8 1/2. Junior Jordan Calderwood placed ninth in the 1000-meter race with a personal best time of 3:01.88.

Ottawa University baseball sweeps Bethany in Lindsborg series
Ottawa University baseball opened ECAC play with a three of four weekend against Bethany in Lindsborg. The team split Sunday’s doubleheader 7-1 and 13-6 after Saturday trends of 12-6 and 13-1. Trevor McClanahan and Cris Roman each had three hits in the Sunday nightcap with McClanahan scoring four times and Roman driving in five. McClanahan led offensively in the Saturday opener with three hits. Tyler Quintana added four RBIs. Michael Steinbacher had three hits and five RBIs in the nightcap as Ottawa improved to 7-12, 3-1 and hosts Avila at 1 p.m. S: Ottawa softball from Friends University weekend saw Gabby Markham throw a no-hitter Friday in a 7-0 win over Bacone and an 8-6 win vs. No. 13 USAO, but Ottawa dropped three Saturday games 4-0, 9-1, and 8-0. Markham struck out four in the no-hitter. Ottawa stands 7-12 and travels to Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Ottawa University volleyball lost 3-0 to top ranked Missouri in St Louis. The Braves hit .093 with 18 errors and were edged by Missouri Baptist in the final set. Ottawa, 3-17, travels to Arlington Heights Illinois Thursday to face Robert Morris. Daniel Jacobs had 11 kills.

Ottawa girls fall in sub-state title game at home
Ottawa High School finished 9-13 after a 50-23 loss to Abilene in the sub-state championship. Coach Kelli Fischer praised a young lineup featuring four sophomores led by seniors Bryan Ferguson Mackenzie Snow and Deonna Lane as they gain experience and learn the game. The Cyclones noted ballhandling and shooting as weaknesses while stressing that maturity and defense will carry future seasons.

Clarke University fell 19-3 to the Ottawa University men as Willis tallied seven goals and four assists. Ottawa moved to 5-0 behind 11-0 run and 14 saves by goalie Carson Davis. In the same day, Ottawa women earned their first program win 11-8 at Peoples Bank Field with Kirah Thomas scoring seven goals to seal the ECAC victory.
