EPA to keep regulations on diesel trucks and buses

EPA will enforce tighter diesel engine and fuel rules to cut pollutants and meet 1997 smog and fine-particle standards. The plan, set to take effect March 18, targets 97 percent sulfur reduction by 2009 and 90 percent diesel soot cuts from 2007, with 95 percent NOx cuts by 2010, aiming to prevent thousands of illnesses and deaths annually.

Planners seek outside guidance for vision planning

Ottawa planners heard from experts including Nancy Scott of Hutchinson about tailoring vision plans to communities. The Hutchinson process, begun in 1999 as Envision Hutchinson 2005, produced an Action Plan with 24 goals integrated into the city’s comprehensive plan.

Fuller hearing Friday in first degree murder case

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday in Franklin County district court for Raymond Eugene Fuller 24 on charges including first degree murder of Vivian Johnson 8 and attempted first degree murder of Howard Johnson 86 plus aggravated burglary. Co defendant Joseph Andrew Hayden 17 was bound over for arraignment on identical charges on Feb 22. The Johnsons were attacked at their Nevada Terrace home in the early hours of Nov 1 last year. Vivian died 18 days later.
