Kansas town tightens race tensions over California migrant
In Turon Kansas Raymond Hill a California arrival who came to marry a local woman becomes the focus of a racism furor after pamphlets urging to send California trash back to California appear on car windshields. Mayor Charlotte Sanford convenes a town meeting with FBI DOJ and NAACP speakers and pushes a hate crime ordinance while two years of race incidents unfold including a Hispanic discrimination suit and a threatening call linked to a youth group home. Hill and his supporters say the town remains largely friendly and blame jealousy over his impending marriage.
