Campsites Fill Fast At Kansas Lakes For Holiday Weekend

Brad Cox of the Corps notes about 40 percent of campsites unusable while all boat ramps near North Shore Marina close this weekend for safety. Life jackets are mandatory on boats and hazards may exist underwater. No campsite reservations. prices are 10 dollars with electric hookups and 8 without. Hillsdale and Melvern report most sites usable but filling rapidly. Blackjack at Melvern State Park closes its campsite and one boat ramp.

South Korea Demands Apology Over Flag Swap Incident

Seoul demanded an official apology from North Korea after Pyongyang replaced the South Korean flag with its own on a ship carrying free rice. Deputy Prime Minister Rha Woong-bae said the move jeopardizes the deal to provide North Korea with 150,000 tons of free rice under a Cold War era agreement.

American sentenced to 20 years for hashish smuggling in Vietnam

John Joseph Daniels, 51, of Long Beach, California, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined 200000 dollars after a two day trial in southern Minh Hai province for trafficking almost two tons of hashish. An officer from the U S Liaison Office attended the trial. Police seized 3530 pounds of hashish on a Thai ship bound for Indonesia and the United States, with two Thais also arrested 14 months earlier.

Local ACED seeks results from county surveys

Anderson County Economic Development officials await two survey results to guide marketing and business retention plans.
