OMA plans over $9,500 in prizes for talent show

Ammunition plant to lay off 250 workers in Kansas

An ammunition plant once the world’s largest will cut 250 jobs as part of a 650 employee reduction at Sunflower Ammunition Plant in De Soto Kansas. Lt. Col. Richard Jackson said most layoffs occur by end of August with others by the end of September and October depending on job function.

Leader killed in Algeria chief of ruling council assassinated

Mohamed Boudiaf, 72, head of Algeria’s High State Committee, was shot in Annaba while delivering a speech. The military backed leadership, formed to block Islamic fundamentalist victory, faced guerrilla violence as security forces cracked down on Islamic Salvation Front supporters. Boudiaf, a veteran of the independence war, represented a key postcolonial era figure.

County OKs 911 budget for 1993 spending plan

Franklin County commissioners approved a 1993 911 budget of 119 723 for the county share of operating the dispatch service. Ottawa will be asked to contribute the same amount. The total city county cost is 239 446, down 53 629 from this year. Savings come from moved operations, fewer staff, and lower insurance.

Rain Cuts Short Franklin County 4-H Horse Show at Fairgrounds

Clouds south of Ottawa halted most events Sunday ending two days of riding, showmanship, and racing at the Franklin County Fair and Rodeo. About 40 youngsters participated, with a new rescue race added late Sunday and high point awards to be announced during the fair.
