Declaration facts and oddities from early America
The Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration on July 4 1776 and published it July 8. It was written on parchment and signed by 50 members on August 2 with six later signers. A linen bag hid the paper in a Virginia barn during the War of 1812. Also notes bread is over one third water and digestion spans 25 feet.
