More than 200 consumers and providers of mental health care gather at Ottawa University for the Kansas Mental Illness Awareness Council conference. Twelve workshops cover vocational rehab legislation and community outreach as speakers include Ottawa mayor Joan Tyson and state representatives Hen drix and Blumenthal. The Ottawa VFW to present the flag at 2 p.m. Saturday and the Ready for Anything Players perform Sunday lunch.

Ottawa trust buys garden tractor for educational projects
The Ottawa Public Education Trust funded a garden tractor won during Skunk Run Days by resident Jason Edwards of 3800 Montana Road. OPET organizers Brenda Cummings says the trust bought the tractor at cost and will use about 160 for programs enhancing local public school offerings.

Auxiliary to toast RMH administrator Bregant and wife
The Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary hosts a reception for new administrator Bob Bregant and his wife Lisa from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the conference room of the hospital’s new wing at 1301 S Main. Tours of the new wing will be offered that afternoon. Bregant, 30, joined RMH in March from Ward Memorial Hospital in Monahans Texas, replacing Len Daugherty who resigned in December. Daugherty is now CEO of Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox Indiana. Bregant previously worked for Hospital Management Professionals, a firm with a contract to AMH trustees that has since been canceled. he is now employed by RMH.
