Funnel cloud spurs rare tornado near Princeton Franklin County
Emergency director Alan Radcliffe said a Saturday funnel cloud was spotted south of Williamsburg and near Princeton after a storm alarm alerted residents. The 7:10 p.m. touchdown lasted two minutes, 25 yards wide, with sirens in Williamsburg Richmond and Princeton. No injuries or damages were reported. Temperatures rise into the mid to upper 90s with heat index around 105 as a heat advisory continues.

Ottawa High School students Anna Stone and Lindsay Frank earned the History Channel Award for Outstanding Entry on an International Theme at the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest in College Park Maryland. They placed seventh in their division for their project Gavrilo Princip Forgotten Man Unforgettable Legacy and will share a $5 000 scholarship. Their teacher Candie Campbell accompanied them and noted the interview and video portion of the judging.
