Ottawa OU basketball camps span two weeks in July
Ottawa University hosts two two week basketball camps in July with multiple sessions for different grade groups. Week one July 6 to 9 offers sessions for second through fourth grade 11:30 to 1, fifth through eighth 8:30 to 11, and advanced camp 2 to 4. Week two July 13 to 16 repeats options. In a wind driven finish Ottawa erased an early five run deficit to force a 5 5 tie with Princeton. Rick Guilfoyle led Ottawa with three hits as J R Servatius and Guilfoyle drove in key runs. The game ended early due to rain and Ottawa eyed a 7 o clock home game against Chase County pending weather conditions.
Legion Celebrates 50 Years of Ottawa Team Glory
The Warren Black post has sponsored Ottawa American Legion baseball for fifty years. A ceremony honored the post before tonight's nine inning game with Legion commander Don Anderson throwing the ceremonial first pitch. The program traces to 1948 with Ike Cearfoss coaching and early local sponsors. Four coaches were named coach of the year: Marshall Allen 1956 Pete Dearfoss 1969 Jim Allen 1975 and 1977 Walt Dengel 1982. Ottawa won the 1994 AA state title on its home field. The team has reached state six of the last seven seasons, second to Salina's nine straight appearances.

The decision preserves the rule that transferring players lose a year, leaving two seasons of eligibility post sit-out.
