U S Fish and Wildlife Reject Review of Refuge Controversy

The U S Fish and Wildlife Service denied Gov George Docking a field review of the Marais des Cygnes waterfowl refuge in Linn County after the State Forestry Fish and Game Commission dropped condemnation actions against Belcourt and Ottawa hunting club lands. Assistant Secretary Ross Leffler told Rep Breeding that no field review is needed. 800 acres held by the clubs are valued for waterfowl and could add to the project, and removal of the property would not affect the refuge balance. Judge Harry Fisher refused to drop the condemnation suit.
