Lindgren Wins Slow 6 Mile NCAA Track Features Speedster
At Indiana University Gerry Lindgren won the six mile in 28 07 as the NCAA meet opened. San Jose State star Tommie Smith matched the NCAA 100 yard record at 9.3 and joined the world 220 yard mark at 20 2 while Randy Matson set an NCAA shot put record of 65 6 14 and eyed further marks later in the meet. UCLA led early team scoring with eight points as Smith Greene and Matson loomed in key events including a 100 yard showdown.
