Only One Quad Remains Alive

New Haven quadruplets were born to Mrs. Kenneth Barnes yesterday with two of the four boys dying within hours. The surviving infant is in fair condition at St. Raphael's Hospital while the mother rests. Father Kenneth Barnes, an aircraft worker, said the deaths were God’s will. The family also has a two year old son, Dominic.

About two-fifths of U S hospital beds are occupied by mental patients and these do not include epileptics and subnormal patients. The median age of all U S men is 30 years.

Decline in Farm Income in Early 1955 Report

The Agriculture Department reports farmers' cash receipts for January through May 1955 totaled about 10.2 billion dollars, down 3 percent from year earlier. Total marketings rose slightly, prices averaged 5 percent lower, with hog prices falling over 30 percent. Net income for the first quarter was about 11.9 billion, expected to slide to around 11.6 billion in Q2.

Stock Market Higher On Aircrafts And Metals Rise

New York stocks extended gains as aircrafts and metals led a generally higher market. By late afternoon prices rose 1 to 3 points with only occasional losses, while total trading reached about 2.8 million shares, above yesterday’s 2.65 million.
