Deaths Elmer P. Carpenter of Ottawa region dies in Carney
Elmer P. Carpenter 90, formerly of Ottawa, died yesterday in Carney Oklahoma where he lived. Born south of Wellsville in the Salem Hall area, he left Franklin County about age 20 but attended family reunions here. He was the first of his family to die. Survivors include brother Albert Carpenter and sisters Mrs. E. W. Smay, Mrs. Effie Walker, and Miss Mary Carpenter. Funeral planned in Carney Friday.

California girl track stars crash into Wellington home
A California high school girls track team en route to Ponca City Oklahoma ran a turn blind and collided with a Wellington residence. Supervisor Janet Bellew 35 San Francisco and Erma Jean Gibson Richmond both sustained serious injuries while other teammates had minor injuries. The station wagon entry into the dining room damaged the house about 2500 dollars. All 11 girls were taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Wellington for evaluation and care.
