State Board approves changes in teachers licenses
The State Board of Education in Topeka approved new licensing regulations to ensure teachers are prepared and perform well. The plan, begun in 1992, sets 2003 as the rollout, changes terminology from certificates to licenses, and adds a performance test for an unrestricted license. Conditional licenses for new teachers will be two years, require a 2.5 GPA, and include basic skills testing, with a 6-4 vote keeping GPA at 2.5.
