In Kiowa and across south central Kansas, unexpected thunderstorm rain paused cutting crews delaying the wheat harvest. Weather forecasters expect more scattered storms but warmer, drier days ahead, with yields around 35 bushels per acre and moisture levels just above ideal.
State Senator Doug Walker of Osawatomie filed today to seek a second four year term in the 12th District now covering Franklin Anderson Miami Linn and northern Bourbon counties. Wal-Mart plans an energy efficient prototype store in Lawrence that will use about half the energy of a typical store. It will open next spring, feature solar powered signs, energy efficient design, and recycling programs. The 121,267 square foot facility includes classroom space for school visits and plans to reuse asphalt and recyclable steel from a nearby bowling alley.

At 7 30 p m Wednesday the Ottawa City Band plays the program planned last week and canceled by rain. Edwin Lammers former Ottawa High School band instructor will guest conduct a Henry Fillmore march Las sus Trombones along with two additions to the program.
