State Board approves reciprocal Vo-Tech pact with Oklahoma
The Kansas Board of Education approved a cross state reciprocal plan allowing near border high school students to attend an area vocational school in the neighboring state with tuition equal to local per pupil costs. The deal awaits Oklahoma approval. Other actions include salary raises for 26 unclassified staff, a 7 percent increase for Commissioner Merle Bolton, and the selection of Verye D. Peter as director for local education agency finance at $22,500 annually. The board also endorsed a Basic Skills Agreement and state plans for special and vocational education for fiscal 1980, plus a paid leave for Richard Leighty to attend a U S Education seminar in Israel. During the Citizens Open Forum, Topeka resident Mrs. Joe Swalwell urged more year round services for learning disabled students beyond summer programs at Kaw Area Vocational Technical School.
